You’re charming.

Thanks for deciding to read this chapter. You’re a great Yes Bank boss. You’re a spectacular and totally terrific boss.

Please be sure no one is trying to read over your shoulder. There’s some important secret stuff in this chapter. You need to know it. It’s about the rest of this book. You need to know what’s ahead for you.

There are three secret Yes Bank strategies. They work like this.

A strategy is like a recipe. It’s the steps you follow to do something. Yes Bank strategies help you get people to tell you "Yes."

Here’s the first Yes Bank strategy. Let’s call it the "Be Charming" strategy. It helps you get people to tell you "Yes" and has five steps. Here’s how it works.

You’re the Yes Bank boss and have a gigantic Yes Bank. How do you do it? You use your "Be Charming" Strategy.

You treat people the way you want to be treated. Are you nice to people when you want something? Sure you are. You’re also nice when you don’t want anything. You’re nice every chance you get. That’s how you are. You’re consistent.

You’re also friendly. You speak to people you know and are interested in them. You talk with people and care about how they feel. Here’s your special secret. You take your good manners along everywhere you go.

Does this sound like a good strategy for you? If so, here’s some more stuff about it. You can think about the five steps. Decide if you want to use the strategy. You’re the Yes Bank boss so it’s up to you.

     1. Treat people like you want to be treated. This is pretty interesting. It’s part of your Yes Bank strategy. Here’s how it works.

People don’t have to tell you "Yes." They have a choice. If you use this strategy, they are more likely to tell you "Yes."

What happens if you treat people like you want to be treated? They are more likely to tell you "Yes."

What happens if you don’t treat people like you want to be treated? They are more likely to tell you "No."

What happens if you’re nice to people? They are more likely to tell you "Yes."

What happens if you aren’t nice to people? They are more likely to tell you "No."

Do you know people who are only nice when they want something? Sure you do. The rest of the time, they don’t care how they treat you.

How do those people make you feel? Do you feel like telling them "Yes?" Do you want to tell them "Yes?"

I hear you. You don’t like it when people treat you that way. You don’t want to tell them "Yes."

Being nice just to get something isn’t a good way to treat people. You already know that, don’t you? Sure you do. You know that because you’re soooo smart.

     2. Be consistent. Don’t be nice only when you want something. You treat people the way you want to be treated. You’re consistent. Here’s how it works.

There are two reasons to be nice to people. The first reason is this. Being nice is a good way to treat people. It’s how you want to be treated.

The second reason is this. You want a really big Yes Bank. You want the Yes Bank to be gigantic.

Each time you’re nice to someone, you make a deposit into the Yes Bank. Each time you’re nice to someone, the Yes Bank grows.

If you’re nice to people every day, what happens? the Yes Bank keeps growing. Pretty soon, it’ll be gigantic.

Here’s something you have to know. I wish I didn’t have to tell you this. You’re the Yes Bank boss. You need to know everything. This is bad news. Well, okay. Here it is.

What happens when you don’t treat people the way you like to be treated? The Yes Bank gets smaller.

What happens when you aren’t nice to people? The Yes Bank gets smaller.

You’re right. That’s not a problem for you. You’re nice to people you know. You treat people the way you want to be treated. That’s great, spectacular, and totally terrific. You’re soooo smart.

Here’s another secret only for the Yes Bank boss. I’m going to whisper it to you. Put your ear really close to the book. This is very secret stuff.

A gigantic Yes Bank has a lot more "Yes" answers. Little Yes Banks don’t have very many "Yes" answers. They have mostly "No" answers.

You have a gigantic Yes Bank. It’s stuffed full of "Yes" answers. You’re a lot more likely to get a "Yes" answer from people. Isn’t that great, spectacular, and totally terrific?

How did you get a gigantic Yes Bank? You got it by being nice to people you know. You’re consistent. You’re nice to people even when you don’t want anything. You’re soooo smart. Being consistent is what smart people like you do.

     3. Be friendly. Friendly people are more likely to get "Yes" answers. What do you think? Are you more likely to tell friendly people "Yes?"

What do friendly people do? They speak to you when they see you. They smile a lot. They take a minute to talk even when they are busy. What else do friendly people do? How can you tell if someone is friendly?

Here’s the most important part. You’re not friendly only when you want something. You’re a friendly person. You’re friendly with people you know.

Are you more likely to say "Yes" to a friendly person? Yes you are. Here’s something that’s even better. People are more likely to tell you "Yes" if you’re friendly.

Whenever you’re friendly, you make a deposit in the Yes Bank. Being friendly is a good way to help the Yes Bank grow. It’s part of your strategy.

You want to have a gigantic Yes Bank. That’s the kind with the most "Yes" answers. It’s the kind of Yes Bank you want. You get it by being friendly every chance you get.

     4. Be interested in people. You treat people the way you want to be treated. You’re consistent. You’re also friendly. Step four in your Yes Bank strategy is this. Be interested in people.

You make deposits to the Yes Bank when you want something. You make deposits when you don’t want anything. You make deposits every chance you get.

You make deposits by being nice. You make deposits by being consistent. You make deposits by being friendly with people you know. There’s more. You make deposits by being interested in people.

You listen when people are talking. You ask questions about what they are doing. You notice if there is anything new or different with them. You want to know what they think about things. You care about how they are feeling. What are some more ways you let people know you’re interested in them?

Did you know this? People are more likely to be interested in you if you’re interested in them. Of course you did. You know that being interested in people is important. It’s part of your "Be Charming" strategy. You’re soooo smart.

     5. Take your good manners with you everywhere you go. Good manners are a spectacular way to help the Yes Bank grow. You remember to say please and thank you. Good table manners are important too. You don’t interrupt people when they are talking. You know how to behave at school, at home, and other places you go.

Do you take your good manners along everywhere you go? If so, people are a lot more likely to tell you "Yes."
